Osseodensification

Osseodensification is an advanced technique we use at Horsham Dental Care to improve dental implant outcomes. In a traditional implant procedure, a drill removes bone to create a hole for the implant. Osseodensification, on the other hand, uses specialized drills (like the Versah® Densah burs) that gently compact and densify your bone instead of cutting it away. Think of it as making the bone around the implant site more dense and sturdy.

Why is Osseodensification beneficial?

  • Stronger Implant Support: Densifying the bone creates a tighter fit for the implant. This enhanced initial stability can increase the success rate of the implant and help it integrate with the jaw more effectively.
  • Helps in Low Bone Density Cases: If you have areas of softer or less dense bone (common in the upper jaw or if a tooth has been missing a long time), osseodensification can make that bone more robust for an implant. It can sometimes eliminate the need for additional bone grafts because we’re preserving and strengthening the existing bone.
  • Promotes Bone Growth: The process of compaction can stimulate the bone’s natural healing response. Some studies have shown it leads to quicker bone formation around the implant, which is great for long-term stability.
  • Minimally Invasive: Since we aren’t removing as much bone, the surgical site may heal faster and with less discomfort compared to traditional drilling techniques.

Dr. Aarti Lala and our implant team are committed to using the latest technology to provide the best care. By employing osseodensification when appropriate, we expand the pool of patients who can receive implants safely – even those who were once told they didn’t have enough bone.
